Job hunting in a sluggish economy can be risky, but what if you don't really have a choice? For so many of us in today's changing journalism industry, this has become a confusing and inescapable fact of life.

If you're at a point where you feel like you have more questions than answers, we have you covered. On Thursday, September 25, from 3:15-4:15 PM ET, NLGJA will hold a toll-free Career Watch Distance Workshop entitled "Playing the Field: Changing Jobs in Changing Times."

You're invited to join our panel of career gurus to discuss everything from being realistic about how long a job search might take to tips for fighting that pessimistic voice in the back of your head when the phone doesn't immediately ring off the hook. For the job hunter, we'll share stories about what works, what doesn't and what is just plain career suicide. And for those of you who have been laid off (or are close to it), we'll talk strategy to get you moving on and moving up.

Let's face it: Editors are strange, mysterious animals. No one really knows what goes on in their heads or how they make decisions about which pitches to accept, decline or ignore altogether.

NLGJA will hold a conference call workshop on Monday, June 23, at 3:00 pm ET for members who want to learn how to make their pitches stick. The workshop will cover the spoken and unspoken rules of the road for making pitches that are both memorable and effective. Participants are encouraged to make practice pitches before our panel of LGBT media editors and career-long freelancers, including:
